Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile. - Samuel Longhorne Clemens (Mark Twain)

ReaperCon 2013 - Saturday Day 3

Well, actually its Monday so I'm a little behind on posting. Its been busy to say the least. ReaperCon is hard to describe, its not like other US gaming conventions at all, it is unique. Anyway, pictures do much better showing off what's going on than me rambling on.

The Gallery Room. This room is filled with painted Reaper Minis a good chunk of which have been painted by freelance painters, along with those painted by Anne Foerster and Martin Jones.

A full contest room. We ended up with about 250 entries, from 104 entrants. We had some long hours judging Friday night and then had to judge the entries that arrived on Saturday. I had to herd cats to get that team together! After that we did the judging for the three categories of Sophie Trophies

Glen of the North Texas Figure Club. He put up their display and helped us in the contest room. I learned a lot about how the various Historical Miniature shows work and judge their entries. We do use, basically, the same system.

More Saturday Mayhem. The big tournament games were moved off site this year to the Hilton Garden hotel. Reaper ran shuttles between the two sites during the con.

ReaperCon 2013 Friday Day 2

A very busy day for me working in the contest room. There were definitely more people arriving all day long and painting entries trickled in as well. The line for registration was spilling out into the parking lot, the very small parking lot. I didn't hear any issues with parked cars this time so that was good. There is a lot more buzz, people are taking classes and playing games. There is a little bit of grumbling about the games being held in the hotel but space is becoming an issue. They had a nice display of the Kickstarter Bones right in the pre-registration area. Pictures from today are centered mostly in the contest room, I'm feeling a little isolated up here. The conversations have been good though and I have met a lot of new people.  A few pictures from today, including some BONES shot.

Saturday has a lot of interesting things going on. We will finish up the painting contest judging and hand out the awards that night.

ReaperCon 2013 Thursday Day 1

I didn't suffer to much from the long travel day on Wednesday. What I did miss is getting the chance to take some setup photos. Today I mostly helped out in the painting competition room. Figured out the software, helped take some entries and take some pictures. Reaper is currently streaming the pictures of the contest entries here: Painting Competition Entries. Go ahead and take a look and see what's been entered so far.

I mostly spent today catching up with folks. I worked on my painting entry but I'm not entirely happy with the third figure so its probably not going in as a diorama this year. Fortunately I sort of planned for the possibility so I will still have an entry. I'll get it up tomorrow but probably much later in the day.

Easier to describe the convention with pictures so here you go.

The "shed" that was in front has been moved to the side over by the loading dock.

The original building front is mostly hidden by the new building, the shorter structure on the right.

The new building is serving as the entrance to the con. They lost a lot of parking places and three cars were almost towed away today and its only Thursday!

Anne's painter and sculptor schedule. Notice she doesn't bother to schedule anything during or after my auction. I really do shut the show down.
Tomorrow should be busier. I expect to see a lot of people bringing in their entries for the competition and a ton more people there for classes and games. So more pictures tomorrow night but not till after the the painting competition judging is finished!
