Genghis Con XXXIII - Competition Pictures Posted
I finished working through the medal winning pictures of the competition miniatures from Genghis Con XXXIII. I have posted them on the CMPA Website http://www.cominipainters.com/gallery/
You know I love that top picture. This is some top notch work here and I'm envious of the talent on display. I just spent three hours on my mini's hair. It's almost as hard as getting my own hair done, only much harder!
I love that first one too and it wasn't even the best in show winner this year. All of these painters started in the place you are now. I would hazard to guess that most of these pieces, at least the silver and gold medal ones, took in excess of 20 hours to complete (I know mine did). I can't even imagine how long the Hussar piece took (that's the one with the four horsemen) especially since that is a 54mm piece so its significantly bigger than our more standard 28mm miniatures. I do have some serious talent in this area, two of my regulars have won GW slayer swords, but the great thing about it is that they want to teach others and share their techniques rather than hold everything in like a secret. I think that's almost a universal trait amongst the really great painters, a very real desire to share and teach how they do it
Kris, Just saw your blog. Its been a long time. Those are some massively talented painters. We have nothing like Genghis here in Kansas City. We do have a smaller con called Recruits, run at a high school. They only charge $5 to get in, and students attend free. Its what its name says, a way to recruit new gamers. Bill McHarg
Hi Bill! Its good to hear from you. I thought KC did have a bigger HMGS convention. I guess I don't pay to much attention to stuff outside of CO. Any convention that encourages new players to participate is a good one no matter what the size. If everyone is having a good time then its a great con!
