Norman SAGA Commission - Stay on Target

This weekend I pretty much wrapped up the painting on the commission. What is left to do is get the weapons painted and glued in place and get the bases flocked. I spent most of yesterday's time working on the bases themselves and today I touched up the Hearthguard, especially the shields. There are still a few shields in this bunch that I don't like but overall I'm pretty happy with them. The dragon on the warlord's shield came out quite well I think. My freehand has definitely gotten better after this job.

  1. These are fantastic Kris. And yes that dragon turned out very well. A lot of painters would look at your work and say "I'll never be as good as this guy" and put down their brushes. Me, I'm not going to give up until I get as good as you!!

    1. I hope no one puts the brushes down because of me! I would much rather inspire someone to paint than to give it up. I'm glad you have that attitude Anne! It serves you well.

  2. I saw the Boobies and commented on them. My son came home unexpectedly and I haven't gotten near blogger. I'll post on Tuesday to let people know where I've been.

  3. I'm working on one of my knights right now and this is the first time I've experienced headaches from eye strain. He's not looking too bad and I'm remembering to do the additional work on the straps and buckles and will be adding the darker area around the face. I have something to confess. I do the faces last!

    1. You definitely need to give yourself a break sometimes. The best way is to sit back and allow your eyes to focus on something 20+ feet or away. This is about the range were the eye muscles are totally relaxed. For me I take my glasses off and just enjoy the fuzziness of my vision beyond about 8" or so. Faces last! Heretic! Okay, with that out of my system, I can go on to what ever works best for you!

    2. I know! I should be burned at the stake for my insolence!! I have almost no vision in my left eye due to my accident so when I paint I close the left eye, pull my glasses down my nose and work with just the right eye.

    3. I don't have that kind of vision problem, I just have old eyes now. So I either just take my glasses off or slide them down my nose, depends on what I'm painting. For detail work I'm nearsighted enough that taking my glasses off and bringing the mini up to my eyes is like wearing a 10x magnifier!
