Kickstarter: Reaper Bones II, The Return of Mister Bones. End of Day One

I promise that I will try not to post to much more about this kickstarter but the results at the end of day 1 (9am Central Time this morning) were interesting enough to comment on.

First a "motivational" poster created by a gentleman in the Reaper Forums

This is from an interesting twist to the add-on options. You can add the Expansion set as an add-on to the core set at $50. As the kickstarter progresses the Expansion set will increase with new miniatures as well. There as been some debate about this little twist primarily in the Kickstarter comments, but I think its a neat idea.

Bones II crossed the 1,000,000 mark at 1:32am Central Time. There wasn't as much activity from the international folks, primarily based on concerns over shipping costs. Reaper is going to charge actual shipping costs to ROW backers. I understand their concern but this is becoming pretty normal for just about any kickstarter project. Shipping overseas has become frighteningly expensive.

Right now, they are at 9372 backers and $1,068,631 pledged and we still have 24 days to go.

  1. I checked in on it off and on. It was staggering to watch those numbers go up and up and up. I can't even begin to predict how high this will go as BONES fever seems to have hit once again!

    1. The numbers are a bit unreal. I may have to sell a car.

  2. It's much, much slower today because the initial excitement has worn off. I am sure the gang at Reaper will give it a nudge or something in the next stretch goal that is revealed to get people going again.

    1. I expected it to drop way down today. Everybody was so primed for day one that they charged right in. I'm waiting before pledging more right now, I need to sell that car.

  3. I'm ambivalent about this. I was very upset to have missed out on the first Bones kickstarter, but, then, I finally saw the minis, and I'm not impressed. I'm going to have think about this one for a while.

    1. You have to kind of change your perceptions on this. Some of these are much better detailed than you think they are, the white plastic does not photograph well and its difficult to see everything till you have paint on it. If you go over to Anne's blog you she has painted some of the Orcs from the first kickstarter. I think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference once paint has been applied. Now that is certainly not true for everything produced and there are at least 5 out of the first kickstarter that didn't meet the quality standards and will never be released. These are gaming pieces and by the end of this will likely cost me less than 50 cents each. Plus it is by far the most economical way to get truly large miniatures which just aren't going to be seen in metal anymore. Take it for what it is. If you are a pure painter type this is not for you. If you need rugged minis for gaming this is what you need.

  4. I never actually get to game anymore. It's been like 10 years since the last time I did anything more than Space Hulk. I see the appeal for army building, but my painting at this point is because I enjoy painting. And I haven't even done any of that in two years, because I haven't set up a place since we moved.

    1. In your position what I might do is go for the $1 pledge level if there are any of the add-on options that appeal to you. So you could pick up one of those large dragons that costs $80-90 in plastic for $10.

  5. Yeah, I might consider that.
I did just do the Wrath of Kings kickstarter from coolmini. Busy waiting to get to choose my add ons, at the moment.

    1. Definitely consider it. You could be in an out for less than $50
