US Mars Rover "Curiosity" Landing

This is a pretty amazing image. This is a shot of the latest Mars Rover, name Curiosity, making its parachute descent. This was photographed by  Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, an incredibly lucky photograph. This rover uses a plutonium battery, it should easily exceed its two year mission parameter.  You can go here for more shots of the event: Mars Rover Curiosity

Its really been an exciting year for space programs.

  1. It's good but is it worth the money now?

    1. Absolutely! Every bit of technology that goes into getting one of these to Mars and down safely comes back to us in one way or another.

  2. We're really excited about this here at my house. There are two things I love most about this-watching the scientists faces while their 'baby' survives and watching the data pour in.

    1. Its truly fascinating. When my uncle was still alive we used to get regular updates on all the NASA happenings. He worked at the Cape when it was just a missile test range all the way through the development of the Shuttles.

    1. Fabulous shot! I did see that one, I was trying to decide which one to lead with, that one or the parachute descent. In the end I love parachutes!
