Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile. - Samuel Longhorne Clemens (Mark Twain)

USMC Transportation; AAVP7A1

Quite frankly, school is killing me right now. Its going to cut into my gaming and painting more than I anticipated. I got all my official transcripts in and it looks like I'm not as far along credit wise as I thought I was. 77 more to go to the degree. Ouch!

In the meantime though I have been casually searching for transports for my modern USMC troops. HMMWVs have been very hard to find but today I'm finally getting a chance to make a run to the local hobby shop that should have a reasonable selection. After going through the very thin stock of kits in the Ft Collins area I realized just how spoiled I was down in the Aurora area with quick access to places like Caboose Hobbies and Colpar Hobbies. Colpar has more kits down one side of one of their aisles than I found in two stores in Ft Collins. However, last night I found one of the things I was looking for online at a really good price; the USMC Tuna Boats at $9.00 each. So the order is in and now I'm just waiting for them to arrive. The military modeler in me says that I should go all out and pick up some aftermarket parts to really trick these out but the aftermarket kits are more expensive than the models themselves (at least in this case), so I didn't take that plunge last night. Hopefully sometime next week I'll have four AAVP7A1s to transport my Marines around.

  1. I thought I'd come up for air and visit some blogs and I find that you've ordered even more figures. I've seen the backlog that you haven't had time for and you've just made it worse!! But school is more important. 77 credits is a lot and even if you do 20 credits per semester you're looking at over a year to graduation. Put down the paintbrush and open those books!!

    1. Yea, school is more important and even though I feel like I'm drowning I'm doing pretty well. Nothing like experience to make some of these classes a little easier. A backlog of miniatures is the nature of the wargaming miniature beast. We like to get our armies as complete as possible so that when we set it aside for a little while we will still have everything we need to continue. Its a completeness issue. You have a nice little backlog building up too!

  2. I just ordered a BTR60PB for my cold war Soviets. Didn't get the killer deal you did, but I can't wait to get it either. :)

    1. You know you are going to need at least 2-3 more of those.

    2. Yeah... :) But I wanted to get one to see if the kit was any good. If it is, I'll order a couple of more. I'm also looking into some BMPs and T-64/T-72s. Though I may go with T-55s just cause they seem easier to find.

    3. I don't have a lot of options for the AAVPs so I went ahead and got all I hope I will need. T-55s seem much easier to find that just about any other Soviet tank, although T-72s can be found, just about anything else takes some work.

  4. What scale are these kids? And who makes them?

  5. Sorry, I see it now... 1/72. Do you know of any good 1/48 to 1/56 scale AAVs?

    1. Right, these are Dragon 1/72 scale kits. I'm not aware of anyone that is currently doing 1/48th scale modern armor is any quantity. Academy has a few motorized kits and I think sloppy jalopy may have some as well. Pretty much the modern market is 1/72 and 1/35th.
