Trenchworx - WWI French FT-17 - Pt 4

I did some more work on the FT-17. The paintwork, and weathering is essentially done at this point. I need to go in and some "environment" to it. I'll start with a little mud (going light with the mud) and then hit it with the pigments. I'm closing in on the finish point now, one more solid session and they should be done.

I applied the an Raw Umbar ink as a filter to darken the overall look.

I applied a couple layers of rust, primarily on the tracks. I then went in with a wash rust and then wiped it downwards to streak it.

Went back in with some lighten versions of the camo colors to make things pop a bit.

Calling the basic work finished at this point and letting everything set so I can start in with the pigments and mud

A lightened version of the previous shot. I'm really quite pleased at this point.

Trenchworx - WWI French FT-17 - Pt 2

I'm trying to push through the FT-17s as quickly as possible to try out these paints. Now the reddish brown is the only new paint at this stage, the green (Vallejo US Dark Green 893/095), yellow (Vallejo Green Ochre 914/119) and bluish grey (Reaper MSP Snow Shadow 9021) are all colors that I had on my paint shelf.

I have gone about as far as I'm willing to go this evening. I need to add the black border between all the colors next and follow that up with a gloss coat. Once that's applied I'll go in and start the weathering phase which will involve most of the other colors that I'm experimenting with.

This is where the evening ended:

I wanted to try out this new paint. I brushed it on this particular FT-17. Thinned nicely with water and went on nice and smooth. It was a little thinner than I expected so I may have added a bit to much water. But two coats is fine with me and I got a nice solid base color.

Same color but this time I airbrushed them. Airbrushed easily without to much thinning.

Airbrushed the other three colors. Tomorrow I'll add the black borders between the colors and hit the tracks. After that comes the gloss coat and weathering.

Trenchworx - WWI French FT-17 - Pt 1

I know this seems odd but I started another project tonight. Now there really is a method to the madness here, I have received some new paints to try out. Based on who is going to produce them I decided that I really needed a vehicle to try them out on. Since I haven't done any WWI miniatures for a while the FT-17 from Trenchworx seemed like a good choice.

So tonight I cleaned, assembled and primed the three FT-17 I received from the Trenchworx kickstarter almost exactly a year ago.

I accidentally deleted a few of the pictures I wanted to show you but here is pretty much where things started and ended this evening.

Here are all the parts cleaned up and ready to be assembled. The tracks are just dry fitted to the body at this point. These were supplied with rare earth magnets to help hold the turrets on and make the guns interchangeable. I opted not to do this.

Here they are fully assembled. I see at least 4 different colors of resin being used in the production at this point. I really can't tell the difference between any of the different colors.

Here they are all primed and ready for paint. I used the Badger Stynylrez Grey Primer. This is a water based acrylic polyurethane surface primer. The more I use it the better I like it. I do apply it with my airbrush and I haven't had to thin it during the process.

Close up of one of the three vehicles. I'm hoping to get these done relatively quickly.

These are beautiful models. They maybe a little expensive but I think they are well worth the price.

Another Kickstarter Arrives - Trenchworx WWI Tanks

With the Kickstarters I have supported I figure its on time if it delivers within 2-3 months after the estimated delivery date. This one from Trenchworx arrived today, weeks early! It was scheduled for a November delivery (end of November I believe). Granted my order was pretty simply just 3 FT-17 and a Rolls Royce Armored Car, but I'm still very impressed.

The quality is top notch too, I don't think my pictures really do it justice. The mold release agent was pretty heavy on these so I have already given these a soapy, warm water bath and done a little dry fitting. These are top notch kits, flash is light, the sprue attachment points look like they be well hidden after assembly. Some of the mold lines on the smaller pieces are going to take some work to clean up, but overall its just a great kit. I wish I had enough funds to have picked up some of the British tanks along with a German A7V but maybe I'll pick those up later. Check them out at Trenchworx

UPDATE: I received an email from Dave at Trenchworx this morning. He asked about my release agent comment because they don't use any! They have been able to prime and paint their models straight from the molds. I went back to where I had layed out the pieces to dry and they still feel quite slick to me. But now I believe that its because their mold process produces such a smooth surface that it feels "slick". I'm hoping to get some primer on these today but after emailing with Dave I'm not anticipating any problems.

These are going to do a great job supporting my WWI US Marines.

Small Box, well packed

Somewhere in all this are three tanks and an armored car. They sent along some coasters as well.

Each vehicle bagged up in ziplock. There is a smaller ziplock inside that holds

There are a few more parts to the FT-17 than I expected. There are also rare earth magnets so I can switch out the weapon  between an MG or a 37mm Cannon.

Nice detail on the treads

Turret looks top notch
The armored hull
The Rolls Royce armored hull

There are few pieces for this one too

Just dry fitting the turret here.

Trenchworx Kickstarter - Final Push - WWI Resin Tanks in 28mm (1/56th Scale)

The Trenchworx Kickstarter will be ending at 11:59PM today (8/31/2014). I'm still in for the French Squadron of FT-17s and I'm figuring out what else I want to add before it comes to a close. They have hit the $15,000 mark to produce the CA-1 Schneider and have lowered the goal for the British Mk IV to $20,000. I tempted to buy into the a couple of the British Mk Vs but my Marines were only supported (rarely) by the FT-17. Maybe a truck or two would be interesting.

Trenchworx Kickstarter - New Pics - WWI Resin Tanks in 28mm (1/56th Scale)

There seems to be a plethora of WWI tanks and what not coming out in advance of the 100th Anniversary. The folks at Trenchworx posted some new pictures of their vehicles so I thought I would share them here in case anyone has missed it. They have started production to fulfill the backer awards so I'm pretty confident this one will be going out on time in December.

You can jump in on this one here: Trenchworx

Here are the pics (the infantry is the Great War Miniature line from Northstar)
