Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile. - Samuel Longhorne Clemens (Mark Twain)

UP Train heading north to Ft Collins

Its been a while since I posted some train photos but as I was driving to Denver this morning I was stopped at the train tracks on my way to I-25. I couldn't get great photos but they aren't bad for shooting from the hip. Its hard to pick out the numbers on 4186 but I had a shot of the cab in one of the photos I cropped to confirm the number.

It was a mixed train heading north with five engines in the lead and none on the end must have been fully loaded.

Union Pacific Engine Facility Denver CO - Part 2

I was able to get a few more shots of the three engines from a bit different angle than the first ones. Its mostly remembering to sit on the seat opposite where I normally do. Shooting through the glass is killing me, I need to find my polarizing filters to cut down on some of that glare. I'm not good enough with GIMP to figure out if I can just remove it although using the white balance helps a lot. Anyway here they are again, plus a bonus shot of one of the UP's little switchers.

Union Pacific Engine Facility Denver CO

There as been a lot of activity at the UP facility this week. After a couple of false starts with the real camera I finally managed to get some reasonable shots at some of the more interesting "foreign" power that I have seen hanging around this week.
First up is some leased power; GMTX 2682  a GP38-2
Next we have an ex-Southern Pacifc now UP1482, a GP40-2
And then last but certainly not least an ex-Southern Pacific now UP 6195, a C44CW
I had originally ID this as an SD60M but I missed a renumbering after the merger and my friend Ken pointed out that this was really an C44CW. The lucky dog gets to ride on these beasts now and then.

Union Pacific Diesels - Right Place Right Time

I haven't hardly posted anything on my #2 hobby, model railroading, in quite some time. So time to break things up a bit. I ride the RTD light rail line to and from work everyday and it goes right by the UP's engine facilities. I was headed in when I spotted an two black diesels sitting outside the shops. I was in the wrong place on the train to catch a shot though. As luck would have it (dependent somewhat on your perspective) one of my boys was sick enough that I had to head home. Knowing what was coming up I got ready with my phone camera (didn't even think of packing the good Nikon with me). I was fast enough to get one shot as we rolled by and it wasn't even fuzzy! What we have is an ex Cotton Belt engine in original colors but with a UP engine number in UP yellow and red and right behind it an ex Southern Pacific engine also in original colors. Unfortunately I only managed to pull off a shot of the Cotton Belt engine but you can see the tail end of the SP one as well.Oh and its not really on a step grade like that, I just wasn't holding the camera quite straight. Maybe better shots in the morning, if they are still there!

Railroad Prototype Photos - Derelict Crane Car

Well, as it usually happens during the convention season, my railroad model activities drop way off. But I was going through pictures today and I thought this car in particular was very cool, so I'm posting it as something a little different from what I have been showing off lately. I think this belongs to the Union Pacific Railroad. Check the RR prototype album for more pictures.
