Quotes

Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile. - Samuel Longhorne Clemens (Mark Twain)

Kickstarter Loot - Serious Loot!

It has arrived! The Walter Koessler book has finally made it. I have been more excited about this Kickstarter than any of the other ones I have backed to this point. Its especially poignant with the 100th anniversary of WWI coming up. Some truly amazing pictures in here it really does detail the whole life of some these soldiers from the beginning of the war to the end.

Here is a look at a few pages
Opening the box

There is the book, with my request book band (its not part of the book, it slides off).

Most of the pages are like this. A scan of the original album page and on this one a couple of enlargements and a bit of description.
The best part of are some of the pages are full sized enlargements of the smaller album pictures. Easy to do since they family maintained the original negatives in such good conditions.

Walter Koessler 1914-1918 - Culturalspot.com

If you didn't buy into this kickstarter, or did and are anxiously awaiting your copy of the book this might appease you a little bit. Check out this gallery of Walter's photographs on culturalspot.org

I did download my pdf of the book and it only whetted my appetite for the real thing.

Kickstarter Update - WWI Walter Koessler Book - WOW

I am probably more excited about this particular Kickstarter than any other one I have backed at this point. We are at T-minus 24 hours on this project and Dean received a dummy copy of the book. Basically this is a completely blank copy of the book, showing off what the quality and size you could be receiving in December. If you were thinking about this one and were on the fence, its time to step up and get a copy now, before its all over.

Update - WWI Kickstarter Book - The Walter Koessler Project

Just a quick note if you are on the fence about this project. He sent out an update to day indicating that he has sent the book to the printer. He has an excellent chance of making his December delivery date at this point. So if you need to put out a hint for a birthday present you have 3 days before this kickstarter closes (65 hours at the time of this posting to be more or less exact).

WWI Kickstarter Book - The Walter Koessler Project

I think this is a pretty exciting project. This gentleman is going to produce a book  with the images his great-grandfather took as a German officer during WWI. His family has taken care of the pictures and the negatives for almost a 100 years now and he has decided to scan the images and create a WWI pictorial with over 1000 images. You can see the images he scans here on his tumblr site: Walter Koessler Project

This is a fascinating record of the war from the German side, just priceless photographs. If you have any interest in WWI then I think this is an excellent kickstarter to jump into. There are still a few pledge levels available at $75 (add $30 for shipping outside the US) and then the next level is $89. There is even a 3D steroscopic viewmaster pledge level. Very cool stuff. He has blown way past his goal with 9 days left.

Please keep in mind that unlike many gaming and miniature projects there are no stretch goals or add-ons. Various pledge levels will provide extras, but you can only participate through the pledge levels, no extras.

I have pulled one picture from the Kickstarter page and a couple from his tumblr site just to give you an idea of a very small portion of this book. I think this is a must have book for those with a serious interest in WWI.
